I prefer a stronger hand for the reopening double. Also, I think that if you are willing to risk p converting your X on 2 you must also respect his penalty dbl of 3.

But the bidding is not terrible. (Well actually it is, see Arend's comment bellow).

I agree with the reopening double, but bidding 3 is terrible. Partner has values and didn't raise to 2S immediately, so he has only 2 spades. Why on earth should we bid 3 over 3 on a 5-2 fit, when partner is making a penalty double of their contract?

My personal style would be an immediate 2. Bidding 2 whenever you can works wonders, IMO.

That said, I sympathize with 1, planning to reopen.

I echo that 3 was a poor choice. 3 is a call that says, "Partner, I think I should have bid 2 the first time, so now I'm going to be a hero."
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

I expect down 2 or more. I have 2 almost 100 % cashing tricks and partner Xed them when we have a trump void...

Hi,

I am not sure, I would have made the X,
but having made the bid, you have to pass
partners X.

As it is 3S is the bid you make, if you are scared
of your bidding the round before, running from
3H shows, you dont believe that you have the
values you promised.
But you made your decision, now see how it ends,
3S is pure guess, and it may well be, that both
contracts are down.

With kind regards
Marlowe

1 Spade followed by double shows a pretty good hand normaly. (No strong NT but a little more then a mere 8). To avoid this possible dilemma I had overcalled 2 Spade on my first round and passed partners double of 3 Heart happily.

But if I had chosen the given auction, 3 Spade after the double was sick.
It says: Partner one of us is an idiot and does not know how to bid. Later it will show that south was the idiot himself.
Kind Regards

Roland

Scoring: MP

3 was -1 and 3 would also have been -1
I was allowed to ruff 3 's in my hand and ruff a in partners hand after discarding a on the 4th . Should have gone down more.
3-1 was not a bad score because a lot of other tables were in 2=, but 3x-1 would have been a top score.
